Trump over the top with Texas Vote

Texas put Donald Trump, the Republican president-elect, over the 270-vote threshold Monday afternoon. The vote ensured that the billionaire will become America's 45th president, despite efforts by protestors to get Electors to cast their votes for someone else.

The group of protesters who came to the Texas Capitol Monday brought posters & banners urging an Electoral College flip-flop. Most, like Diane McGreggor, realized their dream was a long shot

"We are not going to ever give up hope that we might make a difference,” said McGreggor.

Along with the messages for Electors, there were also a few backhanded holiday greetings for the President elect. Adrian Inglis made a poster that read “Treason’s Greetings!”

" Trying to find something that rhymed with Treasons and well season and seasons. Greetings that's just a sad message that we have from the results of the election,” said Inglis.

The rally on the south steps of the capitol did little to impress Donald trump supporters, like Jean Raley, who walked by with two friends.

"The election was held the people spoke I think they are silly,” said Raley.

Carol Spencer, another Trump Support said she respected the protesters Right to rally but for her, the focus now should be about mending fences not burning bridges.

"The voters spoke and in our form of government we elect electors to represent what the voters did at the polls on Election Day."

"The Texas Electoral College vote ceremony, which is held in the statehouse chamber, usually is an uneventful gathering. But Monday this  unconventional election year wrapped up with a long line of people wrapped around the Capitol Rotunda waiting to get into the House gallery.

The Texas Electors - all Republicans because Donald Trump won the state in November -arrived Monday afternoon with only two of the 38 electoral votes in question. 1st time Elector Jon Jewett of Cedar Park told FOX7 he was voting for Trump despite the 14,000 emails and letters he got pressuring him to flip.

"It made me more firm in my commitment, this is a threat to our Republic,” said Jewett.

There is no rule that binds the Electors to follow the election results. Loren Byers, from Irving, came to his second Electorial Vote believing the decision was locked down at the ballot box.

"It's a matter of integrity we took a pledge to vote as the majority of the folks in the state of Texas voted and it would be a dishonor to all does voters in Texas who asked me to vote a certain way,” Byers.

The outcome of the Texas Electoral College vote was never really in doubt. Despite that, protesters promised they will remain defiant, saying they lost the election but not their flight.

"You find issues that matter most to you think about what you can do start a grassroots movement there still things you can do donate come to protest you can't just except what happened,” said Martin Torres.

Officially Donald Trump received  36 electoral votes. Ron Paul got one vote and Ohio Governor John Kasich  got one vote.
