Texas State student killed in home invasion robbery

A Texas State Student is killed in a home invasion robbery in San Marcos.

It happened at the Retreat Apartments.

Police say early Sunday morning the victim, 20-year-old Justin Gage went to the complex with friends after going out.

While inside an apartment three masked men burst through the door.

There was a struggle over a gun. Gage was shot once in the back, and again in the arm.

He died later that day.

Officers believe the motive was robbery and narcotics were involved.

The suspect descriptions are very vague, but match that of a prior home invasion robbery that occurred at this same complex in November.

The San Marcos police chief says his department is watching the complex closely and is working with apartment management to keep residents safe.

"first and foremost, use good common sense and basic security concepts. Lock your doors for one thing. Second, if you're engaged in any type of behavior that's risky and may draw attention to yourself don't do that anymore. And again we need people to be very forthcoming with us to tell us exactly what they know if they know anything about these crimes so we can get these guys off the street."

Public records show Justin Gage was from Cibolo which is just north of San Antonio. He was enrolled as a sophomore at Texas State.

The University released this statement about gage's death:

"Our primary concern is always for the health and well-being of our students. A tragedy like this impacts the entire Texas State community. Our deepest condolences go out to Mr. Gage’s family."

The suspects are described as three black males. In this recent robbery, two wore a black mask, one wore a white mask. Call police if you can help solve this crime.
