St. Edwards campus lockdown over, suspect still at large

At 2:54 St. Edwards University tweeted that the campus lockdown was ended. 

According to St. Edward's officials final exams have been rescheduled due to campus lockdown. Updates will be emailed.

Authorities are still looking for the suspect.


The Austin Police Department is searching for a man in his 30s who was allegedly seen armed and breaking into a vehicle at St. Edward's University on Wednesday.

Officials said around 12:40 p.m. near the 4000 block of South IH-35 a suspect broke into a vehicle and the owner confronted the suspect. The owner saw what appeared to be a weapon on the suspect’s waist area, according to APD.

The suspect took off running towards St. Edward's University, leading to a campus lockdown. St. Edward's Police and APD officers, alongside a K-9 unit, are still in the area searching for the suspect.

APD describes the suspect as a Hispanic male approximately 30-years-old,

  • heavy set
  • bald, with facial hair
  • tattoos on the facial area and back of the neck

According to officials, the suspect was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

UPDATE: Shelter in Place. Remain inside with doors locked until further notice.


St. Edward's University has issued a shelter in place alert on its campus because of a man with a stolen gun who is in a wooded area on campus.

Officials say the suspect was last seen near baseball fields heading west. 

The shelter in place alert means people should remain inside with doors and windows locked until further notice.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 6 inches, tattoos on head, black jacket, jean shorts and tennis shoes.

APD and UPD is on campus with a K-9 unit. Call UPD at 512-448-8444.
