A Civil War themed dance in Williamson County is causing backlash

A Civil War themed dance in Williamson County is getting some serous backlash.

The January 30, "Old South Ball" benefit is being held to coincide with the Williamson Museum's two year-long civil war exhibit. The museum's Executive Director Mickie Ross said its one of many events scheduled for the community about the exhibit.

The dance, Ross said, has been on the calendar since last April. Guests are being asked to wear period costumes. There will be also be dances, food, and drink reminiscent of the 1860's.

"This was just one more educational event, living history event," Ross said, adding, "that we could provide to share what life was like for the folks that lived here in the 1860's. It's not intended to deal with anything else but that."

But some county residents think otherwise. The group Positive Change for Georgetown is spearheading a petition against the museum's "Ill Timed" and "Ill Advised Old South Ball".

FOX 7 reached out to the group for comment but they didn't respond. Ross said the group never reached out to her with their grievances and she adds that they are the only group who have a problem with it.

"It's interesting until the last couple of months there wasn't anything negative about it. That's where I came up with the idea that it's focused on national politics."
