7-foot-long snake sheds skin in Granger backyard

It's that time of the year when more snakes are seen slithering around Central Texas.

On Wednesday morning, Jamie Church of Granger found one in her backyard.

The snake is estimated to be about 7 feet long. Because the snake climbed into a wall, it is unclear if it was venomous, but the homeowner says it serves as a good reminder, to always be careful.

“I think everyone needs to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings pay attention because they’re out there.” said Church.

Granger Police Chief Justin Powell said the department is urging residents to cut long grass and clear debris piles to help avoid issues with snakes.

There are two types of venomous snakes found in Texas: pit vipers and coral snakes. The Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife asks that if you see a snake, even a venomous one, you refrain from killing it. Instead, they ask that you give it time and space to retreat.
