75-year-old Leander man shot in face, truck stolen

Lt. Billy Fletcher with the Leander Police Department says 28-year-old Armando Espinoza Jr. is in the Bastrop County Jail for a crime he's believed to have committed in Leander on September 3 on East Evans Street.

"Leander Police Department received a telephone call from the Cedar Park Regional Medical Center in reference to a 75-year-old male that had been shot in the face," Fletcher said.

Police say he burglarized a home in the same area and then stole the 75-year-old Victim's white Ford truck.

"We had actually sent out a BOLO after this incident had occurred, he was arrested 6 hours after the incident," Fletcher said.

Fletcher says Bastrop County Sherrif's deputies and DPS took Espinoza into custody in that area and booked him into the Bastrop County jail.

"So far we've actually gotten warrants for him they've been served for aggravated robbery and for burglary of a habitation.  There may be other charges pending later on but right now it's still an ongoing investigation," Fletcher said.

Police say the 75-year-old man is in stable condition.

Fletcher says that robbery charge is a 1st degree felony so he's facing 99 years but as he mentioned the investigation isn't over, more charges may be on the way.

Espinoza is still in jail with a $1.1 million bond for the Leander charges.
