Austin man wanted for growing a dozen pounds of marijuana

A North Austin man is wanted for growing more than a dozen pounds of pot in a field. The arrest warrant for marijuana possession was issued after Austin Police spent months surveillancing the operation.

31-year-old Humberto Martinez Castillo had a pretty sizable farm growing, that's according to APD. Back in July they found some 1,300 pot plants. That's why he's being charged with a third-degree felony.

Just a ten-minute drive from Castillo's home in North Austin lies a field in Manor where police say he spent months cultivating more than a dozen pounds of marijuana. The land, along East Parmer Lane, is where police repeatedly pinged Castillos phone. Court records show he would talk about harvesting the plants during the nearly four months long investigation.

While the property looks barren, at the time, it seemed ripe for growing. When police first flew over the property in late June they allege they saw hundreds of plants. When they finally raided it on July 8th, they seized two grows - with some plants as tall as five and a half feet. There was a pump and hoses to water it - as well as camping gear.

Together, wet, the plants weighed almost a 160 pounds. Austin Police are tight lipped about if anyone else is on their radar -- and whether or not they know where Castillo is. As of Tuesday night he wasn't home. Castillo is not listed as being in custody. His bond is set for $50,000.

Official warrant for arrest.
