The identity of the man who admitted to killing his roommate in San Marcos has been released.
San Marcos police said 21-year-old Esaia Morris confessed to shooting his roommate 20-year-old Francisco Sierra.
Fox 7 obtained an affidavit Saturday afternoon that gave an account of two troubled men.
According an affidavit, Morris said he and his roommate were talking about suicide. Morris agreed to let Sierra suffocate him with a pillow. Morris said he repeatedly pushed the pillow away as Sierra tried to suffocate him, eventually he pushed the pillow away, grabbed the gun he carries on his person, and shot Sierra. Morris called 911 Friday morning, when police responded they found Sierra with a single gunshot to the head.
This wasn't the first time the San Marcos Police Department was called to the apartment. “We had overnight, a welfare call on the victim Mr. Sierra where he potentially had concerns for his mental health (and) his safety. It took a while to locate him, but we took some time with him and left him in the custody of a friend who was going to keep him under watch,” said Asst. Chief Bob Klett of the San Marcos Police Department.
Officers said Morris led them to an area near the business Epic Piping, his place of employment, to show them where he tossed the weapon into a pond in front of the building. Dive teams found a gun Saturday morning, which police believe is the weapon used in the shooting.
Asst. Chief Klett said this is not a normal case for their department. “In general homicides are very unusual in the City of San Marcos. Ones we have seen recently have been what we believe to be drug deals, outside of one last year which was something completely different. These were more poignant cases,” he said.
The victim, Francisco Sierra was celebrating his 20th birthday Thursday night. Police said alcohol could be one of the factors involved in this case, but that is yet to be determined.
Morris has been charged with first-degree murder, and is being held in the hays county jail on a 1-million dollar bond.
