Texas Woman's message to Pope Francis

The last few years have been incredibly difficult for Esmeralda Dominguez.

"I'm a cancer survivor, my husband was my caretaker for the last four years," she explains.

That was until her husband was deported back to Mexico. Leaving her and her son north of the border.

Ever since then, Esmeralda has fought to get her family back. But recently decided to take her fight to a higher power. Pope Francis.

"You know, he's a leader and when he speaks people listen but not only that I think that he so identified with us because he's also a son of immigrants. And when you have those roots embedded in when you have that and it's who you are you identify with him", Esmeralda explains.

Esmeralda and dozens of others from the "We Belong Together" campaign are in El Paso and Juarez for the Pope's visit, taking a pilgrimage to Juarez and back. But this isn't the first time they have tried to get his attention. They packed their bags and headed to the east coast for the Pontiff's last United States visit.

Recently Pope Francis has spoken on behalf of immigrants. Asking them to not be discouraged by whatever hardships they face. Also asking them to be responsible citizens and contribute to their community.

According to Esmeralda, "I think he touches the basic core of our humanity he asked us to be in solidarity and you accept everyone, no matter who they are."

And Esmeralda hopes Pope Francis continues to speak out on real issues that affect countless people.
