Austin sexual assault interactive map, timeline, safety information

FOX 7 has compiled an interactive map and timeline of recent sexual assaults in East and Northwest Austin.

The most recent case on April 17th has police once again putting the public on high alert.

Police are investigating two series of sexual assaults; five cases in East Austin involved joggers. There are seven more cases in Northwest Austin and a possible attack in Cedar Park.

April 17th, 2016

Time: 11:50 a.m.

Location: Taylor Draper Lane

A female was walking around her apartment complex and was grabbed from behind. The suspect ran off after she screamed.

The suspect is described as: White/Hispanic male, Skinny in build, Short brown hair, Dark colored eyes, Mid 20 years of age, 155 lbs., Mask partially covering face, He was last seen wearing lighter colored jeans with a dark grey short sleeve shirt and possibly wearing or carrying a grey long sleeved or light weight sweat shirt.

Time: 6:47 a.m.

Location: 9100 Spicebrush Drive

Woman out exercising, neighbors say man came up behind her, pushed her down, assaulted her. She had minor injuries.

Suspect: Black male, black t-shirt, grey gym shorts

Time: 12:18 p.m.

Location: Loyola Ln & Millrace Dr

Woman pushing stroller with baby, had two dogs with her.

Suspect: White or Hispanic male with light complexion, 5'8", black shirt, dark pants, black hat, possibly armed with knife.

Time: 5:40 p.m.

January 18th, 2016

Time: 9 p.m.

Location: 900 block of Grove Blvd

Sexual assault in a park near the Austin Community College Riverside campus in Southeast Austin.

Suspect: The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 20's. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie.

January 14th, 2016

Location: 100 block of South Gadwall, Cedar Park.

Cedar Park Police say a woman was sexually assaulted while on a morning run.

Suspect: Described as a male who is approximately 5’10’’ – 5’11’’ and has a stocky build.

Location: Hike and Bike Trail between Pedernales and Llano Streets

Attack of female jogger in East Austin

Suspect: Described as a Hispanic male, early 20s, approx. 6' tall, short brown hair.

APD released a composite sketch of the suspect.

Location: E. 5th Street and Pedernales St.

Suspect: Described as a Hispanic male, early 20s, approx. 5'08" tall, short brown hair.

Basic Safety Tips:

  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • If you have your hands full, have a plan in case you are attacked.
  • Limit distractions. Keep the volume down on your headphones or use just one earphone in order to hear and be alerted to approaching hazards.
  • If attacked in an apartment complex remember other apartments are close by so yell in order for neighbors to hear you.
  • Exercise with a friend. In case of an emergency, you can help each other out.
  • If you have to exercise solo, let at least one friend or family member know your route, expected return time, and description of your clothing.
  • Make sure your cell phone is fully charged.
  • Walk in well-lit and populated areas if possible. If not, have a light source handy.
  • Carry identification and include name, phone number, and medical information (allergies, medications, medical history) Consider listing an emergency contact number.
  • Use discretion when acknowledging strangers.
  • If you believe someone is following you, call 911 as you move to a safe place. Stay on the phone until police arrive.
  • Report any suspicious persons to 911.

These cases remain under investigation by the Austin Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Sex Crimes tip line at 512-974-5230.
