ACL Music Festival 2017 kicks off

The Austin City Limits Music Festival kicks off its first weekend today and nearly 75,000 people are expected to head to Zilker Park for the event. Of course every year the lineup changes but another big change this year will be security measures.

FIRST WEEKEND KICKS OFF FOR ACL MUSIC FESTIVAL

It's the 16th year for the festival but this year there's concerns about public safety due to the Las Vegas massacre at another music festival.

Austin Police Department Interim Chief Brian Manley says they're increasing patrols and many officers will be seen during the event and many will be under cover. He says they'll also get extra help from DPS and federal authorities.

What you can bring in has also changed. Allowed items include:

  • Bags and backpacks smaller than 10x10x10
  • GoPros without accessories
  • Collapsible chairs
  • Hydration packs and two sealed bottles of water, up to a liter each
  • Flags or totems under 12 feet

Prohibited items include:

  • E-cigarettes
  • Drones
  • Coolers
  • Framed backpacks
  • Inflatable furniture

Meantime the lineup for this year has big names including Jay-Z, Ryan Adams, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chance the Rapper, The Killers and more.
