APD charges Lyft Driver for rape from two years ago

On Oct. 12, 2015 a woman reported to Austin Police that she was sexually assaulted by her Lyft Driver.

Nearly two years later an analysis of the DNA evidence collected from her case has finally been completed.

However, for two years the man she accused walked free.

According to the court affidavit, on Oct.10 the victim was picked up by two friends around 7:30 p.m. After being picked up, the victim’s friends drove her over to one of the friend’s apartments where they drank.

The victim told police she had a margarita and a mixed drink. Shortly after one of the victim’s friends contacted a Lyft driver to pick them up from the apartment.

According to the victim, they were dropped off at the Iron Cactus where the victim consumed more alcohol. After the leaving the Iron Cactus the victim, along with her friends, made their way over to Maggie Mae’s where the victim continued to drink until she said she felt intoxicated.

Around 11 p.m.  the victim told police she informed her friends that she was ready to go home. At that point the victim said she was slipping “in and out” of consciousness.

The victim told police she didn’t remember much at that point, however, she told police she remembered walking with her friend to 5th Street and Trinity Street where she was picked up by a Lyft driver.

She told police her friend confirmed that the drivers name was “Angel.”  The victim described the driver as having short black hair but said she couldn’t recall anything else about the driver.

At some point during the drive home the victim said she passed out and when she awoke she found the Lyft Driver’s head in her chest.

She said after that she passed out again.

When the victim awoke the next morning around 5 a.m. she told police she could not find her house keys, or earrings. She also said she was feeling sore around her vaginal area.

The victim provided a screen shot of the Lyft receipt with the driver’s photo. On Aug. 4, 2015 Lyft identified the suspect as 36-year-old Angel Reymundo Interial.

According to court documents, police had the victim perform a sexual assault forensic evidence (SAFE) kit.

On Sept. 16, 2015 police submitted a DNA search warrant to Interial.

Two years later on Oct. 11, 2017, lab results were completed and resulted in the arrest of Interial.

Interial has been charged with Sexual Assault and bond has been set at $60,000.
