In the last two months, three women have been attacked while running on the trail and Austin police is making sure runners can feel safe with a special group run.
Police kicked off the special group running and walking events this morning at 6:30 a.m. at Vic Mathias Shores with a three mile run and a two mile walk. The events are open to the public.
This morning's event lasted for about an hour and around 20 people showed up.
APD isn't the only group stepping up. Tetra Fitness gym owner Kathy Redden says she is fed up and is putting power in numbers by creating a free running group. She's inviting runners of all levels to meet at her gym on West 6th Street every Monday at 5:40 a.m.
No exact dates have been provided by Austin police in regards to when its next event will be but you can keep an eye on their Facebook page for more information.
