APD identifies man killed in South Austin shooting

Austin police have identified a man killed in a South Austin shooting last week.

Luis Gerardo Gaytan, 21, died on July 23. According to an APD release, officers responded to a shots fired call in the 6800 block of Bitterroot Trail around 10:39 p.m., where they found Gaytan with life-threatening injuries.

Gaytan was transported to St. David's South Austin Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Homicide detectives and crime scene units began processing the scene. They are speaking with witnesses and looking for more information, says the release.

The Travis County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and determined the death to be a homicide.
