APD identifies the victim from Friday's auto-ped crash

On Tuesday, the Austin Police Department identified the victim of a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred on 12800 block of Pearce Lane Friday evening.

APD said Ira Hodge Jr., 45, was standing in the road when he was struck by a car just after 7 P.M.

Authorities said the preliminary investigation indicates that a red, 2002 Ford Focus was traveling westbound on Pearce Lane. The driver of that vehicle struck Hodge, who was standing in the middle of the road. Hodge Jr. was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police are asking anyone with information of the crash to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-4424.

APD said this the 85th fatal traffic crash and Hodge is the 93rd fatality of this year. At this time in 2014, there were 54 fatality crashes and 61 fatalities.
