APD investigating deadly overnight shooting

The Austin Police Department is working to connect the dots in an overnight shooting. So far, no one has been arrested but police are questioning at least three people believed to be involved.

According to APD, a shooting was reported around 11:30 pm on Thursday, August 4, 2017. The shooting was reported in the 6600 block of Marble Loop Creek. When officers arrived on scene there was fresh blood and multiple shell casings but no victim.

Other police officers responding to the scene noticed three juveniles walking away from the shooting.

One juvenile was seen tossing a shirt and a handgun off to the side of the road.

About twenty minutes later, APD received a call from the South Austin Medical Center. 19-year-old Quintin Vargas had been brought in with a gunshot wound. He later died at the hospital.

Detectives are questioning the juveniles but no one has been arrested at this time.

Homicide detectives believe Vargas and others drove to one of the juvenile's residence with the intention of robbing him of guns and narcotics. A firefight ensued and Vargas was struck.

This is a developing story and will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
