APD said a fight broke out between a group of people at the Rare Apartment Complex off Springdale Road just before 1pm that’s when someone shot a man in his 20s three times. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Sgt. David Daniels is with the Austin Police Department, “If you get into an altercation with somebody it's just best to walk away.” Sgt. Daniels said homicide and gang units were called in to investigate, although it wasn’t confirmed to be gang related.

While a suspect was still not in custody Wednesday night, APD said  they do not believe there is a threat to the public. “At this time we don't think so, again it's still a little early, however they are interviewing witnesses, they are trying to confirm and gather that information to hopefully resolve this situation as quickly as possible.” But Sgt. Daniels said they still want people living in the area to be aware. “A shooting can happen anywhere, just if you see something, say something, contact 911, you can remain anonymous, that's the best thing, if you see something report it,” he said.

If you have any information on you're asked to contact the Austin Police Department.
