APD investing 3 homicides that happened within 7 days

Austin homicide detectives are busy investigating three murders within days of each other. APD said seven people were shot in three separate incidents in Austin in just 7 days. Three of them were killed and one of those murder suspects is still on the loose.

Surveillance video captured the night of August 8th when a man walks into what APD said is a "Game Room" and shot several times. Detectives believe the suspects were attempting to rob the suspected illegal business on Wagon Trail, near North Lamar Boulevard. 58 -year-old Ga Young Chon was shot and killed. Three others were also shot, one of those was a woman who is in critical condition and APD believes is a suspect. The other suspect is still on the loose. Sgt. Jerry Bauzon is a homicide detective for the Austin Police Department.  “Anytime there is a murderer still on the loose, I recommend persons remain vigilant, if they see anything suspicious call 911 as soon as possible,” he said.

Two days later, investigators said things turned deadly for people playing games in a home on Elmira Road in East Austin. “A group of people were playing dice at this address; Collins and Henson were among this group of people. A disturbance broke out which led to the shooting,” Sgt. Bauzon said.
44-year-old Marvin Henson is accused of shooting and killing 32-year-old Ashton Collins.         Collins died at the scene and another man was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be okay.

A quote "Beef" is apparently to blame for a shooting at an apartment complex in East Austin. Early in the morning on the 15th, APD said 28-year-old Anthony Verastegui shot and killed 35-year-old Efrain Rodriguez-Hernandez. Detectives said Verastegui worked as a maintenance man at the complex. “They weren't getting along, we don't exactly what the details to that are and that is one of the things we are still looking into,” Sgt. Bauzon said.

APD said unfortunately, all this is nothing unusual. "Here in Austin we are lucky that we don’t have a lot of violent crime. We average between 25 and 35 murders a year. We had a really slow period earlier this year, so I’m attributing these numbers to catching or bringing our average back up." Sgt. Bauzon said.

The one suspect who is still on the loose from the shooting on Wagon Trail is described as a black man, mid to late 20s, about 6’1” and 180 to 190 pounds.

They are investigating all three of these cases, if you have any information you're asked to contact APD.
