APD releases more info on deadly weekend crashes

The Austin Police Department has released more information on several fatal crashes that happened over the weekend.

APD said Teresa Garcia was hit and killed at 7:05 p.m. on her birthday Sunday, February 14th. Garcia, who just turned 27, was trying to cross the road on Montopolis Drive, near Ponca Street when she was hit by a Cadillac. It was a dark area, with no designated crosswalk.

Rheannon Cunningham is a Senior Police Officer with APD, “If you're a pedestrian, make sure you're obeying the laws and crossing at the correct location and looking out for everybody around you.  For drivers, make sure you're not talking on your cell phone, make sure you're paying attention to the road,” she said.

Garcia was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Cadillac was cooperative with law enforcement. APD said there were no signs of intoxication by either party.

Police have identified the motorcyclist who was killed early Sunday morning on Burleson Road and McKinney Falls Parkway. APD officers said a Lexus was in the turn lane with the driver waiting to turn when 36-year-old Timothy Guajardo on a Harley tried to pass a truck on the left, and hit the Lexus head on.

Guajardo was not wearing a helmet and was ejected from the motorcycle. No impairment was suspected.

Impairment was suspected for a crash that took the life of 32-year-old Lori Pollock on Cooper Lane near William Cannon. APD said 27-year-old Zachary Duggar was driving northbound on Cooper Lane when he lost control, causing the Land Rover to leave the road, roll and hit a tree.

Pollock who was the passenger in the Land Rover died at the scene.

David Sorriano witnessed the crash and said this isn't the first time there’s been a deadly crash there.

“Motorcycles, cars, you see them constantly just going fast, constantly, no matter what, daytime (and) nighttime,” he said.

Dugger is facing Intoxication Manslaughter charges.

The investigations are still ongoing for all of these crashes. If you have any information, you're asked to contact APD.
