Man found dead inside south Austin home after SWAT standoff

A SWAT standoff in south Austin Monday afternoon has turned into a suspicious death investigation.

It started around 4 p.m. when officers were called to the 3000 block of Fontana Drive, off south Congress.  

Officials said a woman showed up to her neighbor's door with serious injuries to her face and head.

According to police paramedics called for APD after learning that the victim's roommate, possibly her boyfriend, caused the injuries.  

The standoff ended just before 9 p.m. when the Austin police SWAT team deployed their robot to find a suspect inside the home.  However, video from the robot showed a dead man who had suffered trauma to his body police said. 

Police said homicide detectives are still investigating and are trying to determine what happened. They also said detectives are investigating the death as suspicious.

The 55-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital, where she is expected to recover police said.

Officials said they are interviewing neighbors and the victim. 

Neighbors were evacuated by police from around the home but were later allowed to return said police. 

No other injuries were reported.
