APD search for hit-and-run driver

- Caught on camera a truck mows down a woman at a South Austin gas station, then takes off.

APD is releasing surveillance video from the incident earlier this month hoping someone can identify the driver. Surveillance video shows a woman run down by a large pickup truck. The driver never slows down, instead takes off.

"Did he not see her?" say Viva Garza, driver.

Viva Garza comes to the gas station off Ben White Blvd. often. The same spot a hit-and-run happened on Feb. 9.

"Anybody who has any kind of sense of humanity or compassion would stop and render aid, just to ensure that the person's safe and that they're okay. Anybody would expect that from our neighbors," says Garza.
Austin Police say it was around 2:00 a.m. when they were called to the scene. Now, more than two weeks later, surveillance video is being released hoping someone can identify the driver. You see the truck pull up to the gas pump and as it leaves, it takes down a pedestrian who appears to be looking at her phone. Incidents like this are why Michelle Page says she moved out of Austin.

"It doesn't surprise me and that's just sad. I feel so bad for that," says Michelle Page, driver.

The video goes on to show good Samaritans trying to help the woman on the ground. She was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say the vehicle they're searching for is a dark green, diesel Dodge pickup with lift kit, oversized wheels and a front brush guard.

"I hope they find him and hope proper justice is served," says Page.

The driver would face a charge of failing to stop and render aid. Police say they will be releasing more information Wednesday.
