A Cedar Park woman says she woke to a man inside her bedroom, he attempted to sexually assault her.

It happened near New Hope Road and Discovery Boulevard.

Thursday morning investigators with the Cedar Park Police Department knocked on Albert Vasquez's door to see if maybe he got a glimpse of an attempted sexual assault suspect.

"They said that people saw somebody back behind our houses," said Vasquez.

Officers say at 3 a.m. a woman in the 900 block of Alamo Plaza Drive reported that a man entered her home.

"She woke up to him in her room," said CPPD Commander Darlene Lewis.

She says he attempted to sexually assault her.

"She did scream at him and that caused him to leave," said Lewis.

Commander Darlene Lewis says the woman called her ex-husband for help. He may have seen the man walking away.

The suspect is described as…

Caucasian or Hispanic
6 feet tall
brown hair
a scruffy beard
strong smell of cologne.

Nick Lyon lives nearby, "It's super scary for us. We just moved into weeks ago, so we want to catch this guy you know."

While neighbors watch out for him police say they will increase their numbers in the area as well.

"I think this is just a wakeup call that no matter where you are things happen and there's bad people in places you don't expect," said Vasquez. "So, you just have to be cautious, keep your doors locked."

The Cedar Park police department does have one recent unsolved sex assault case. In January a woman was attacked from behind while on her morning jog.

Officers tell us they are working with local agencies to see if there are similarities in the crimes they've experienced and say, the serial sex assaults in north Austin.

They say it's always possible there's a connection.

FOX 7 received the following press briefing from Cedar Park Police earlier today.
