Austin police on high alert after threat to kill APD officers

Austin police are on high alert after someone threatened to kill APD officers. The threat was made on a social media site and specifically threatens to kill officers on 6th Street today.

The Austin Police Department is investigating the legitimacy of the threat.

Chief Art Acevedo is taking it very seriously after what happened in Dallas. 

APD staffing is operating on emergency levels where officers are working mandatory overtime effective immediately.

More manpower will be spread across 6th Street as a precaution.

The threat comes as the city experiences a spike in violent crime.

APD is asking for the public's help. If you see or hear anything suspicious you're asked to call police immediately.
