Austin police say man admits to committing a slew of crimes

Austin Police said a 20-year-old man admitted to robbing four men, stealing an SUV and hitting a pedestrian.

According to the arrest affidavit, on Dec. 25, 2017 around 9 p.m., four men met up for a bonfire at Dottie Jordan Neighborhood Park located at 2803 Loyola Lane.

One of the victims told police at some point a man approached the group wearing a black hoodie and baseball cap.

The suspect identified by police as 20-year-old Xavier O’Neal Lewis.

Police said Lewis pulled out a gun and demanded the four men to “empty out their pockets”.
The victims told police they complied with the Lewis’s demands and placed their cell phones and wallet on the ground.

According to the arrest warrant Lewis told the victims that they had 5 seconds to run away or he would “start shooting.” Police said all four victims took off running as Lewis began to count down.
One victim was shot in the leg and another was struck by a bullet on the bottom of his foot police said.

“When we started moving we only got about four steps away and then I heard a loud pop sound,” said one of the victims who was shot in the leg by Lewis.

Police said the victims were able to get away and call for help.

Both victims sustained minor injuries.

Around 10:30 p.m., that same night police responded to Greensboro Dr. and Ashland Dr. for a possible carjacking and pedestrian hit and run.

Police said Lewis stole a 2015 black Cadillac SUV and tried to flee the scene when he struck a pedestrian who was reportedly walking eastbound on Ashland Dr.

According to an arrest warrant Lewis admitted to robbing the four victims and shooting them at Dottie Jordan Neighborhood Park.

Police were able to track down Lewis because of a GPS ankle monitor which Lewis was wearing at the time.

Lewis also told police he stole the black SUV and hit a pedestrian in the course of escaping.

He is being held on $40,000 bond.
