Austin's New Year Celebration suffers low attendance due to weather

The crowds were slim at Austin's New Year Celebration with freezing temperatures Sunday evening.

People huddled around portable warmers.

Austin's New Year 2018, a family-friendly festival of music, art and food will begin at 3 p.m. on Vic Mathias Shores (formerly Auditorium Shores) at South 1st Street and Riverside Drive.

The event will conclude with a fireworks finale at 10 p.m.

Those planning on attending the alcohol free celebration are reminded to dress for winter weather conditions. Cold weather accessories such as hats, gloves, scarves, water resistant shoes or boots, and blankets are encouraged.
