Next week dozens of stores in Austin will carry Blue Bell Ice Cream again.
48 H-E-B grocery stores, and most other major grocery stores in the Capital City, are part of Blue Bell's phase one release. That means they should have Blue Bell Ice Cream on Monday. However, Blue Bell said they cannot release what time ice cream will be available or which stores are on the list.
For many Texans it's been a long, hot summer without Blue Bell and, while everyone might have a different favorite flavor, there is one thing fans can agree on.
"Blue Bell has just been around for so long and we love it! We're big Blue Bell fans," said Enid Francis who said her favorite flavor is Chocolate.
With Blue Bell's return to Austin grocery stores just days away, loyal fans are getting ready to fight for the very last carton.
"We will be back to get some Blue Bell," Hunter Francis who said his favorite flavor is Rocky Road.
In April, grocery stores pulled Blue Bell from shelves after a Listeria outbreak killed three people and sickened seven others. That wasn't enough to scare some customers away.
"I'm sure they're taking care of that and we have full faith in Blue Bell to make sure that it's good for us to eat," said Hunter.
"I mean, I'm sure that they fixed the problem, especially after all the hysteria that it caused. I mean, you'd hope a big corporation like that would," said Marcy Marbut who was shopping at H-E-B Wednesday.
Eric Webber, Public Relations director for advertising company McGarrah Jessee said only a strong brand can survive such a shutdown.
"It has a pretty amazing loyalty that people will go great distances to find it, that they will go to a lot of trouble to have people ship it to them when they're not in their market, so it is the kind of brand I think is capable of withstanding this," Webber said.
Still, Webber said it's likely some ice cream lovers won't pick up a carton of Blue Bell anytime soon.
"They'll absolutely lose some customers, because while people can live without ice cream, they don't like to live without ice cream. So some Blue Bell customers found something to fill the void," said Webber.
The ice cream company has announced three flavors that will be on shelves next week. Fans can expect to see Homemade Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate and Cookies' and Cream. One more flavor will be announced Thursday.
Austin, Houston and Brenham are part of Blue Bell's phase one release and will see the brand back on shelves Monday. The rest of Texas will have to wait
