Body found after AFD responds to trash fire along I-35

Police are investigating after a body was found while firefighters were responding to a grass and trash fire. The fire was at a transient camp off of roadway within the 6700 block of southbound I-35.

According to the Austin Fire Department, the Austin Police Department is now leading the investigation.

Firefighters were responding to car accident around 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 26 when they observed smoke coming from the along I-35. While responding to the smoke, they discovered a fire - which was extinguished - as well as a deceased male. 

The cause of death is unknown at this time. It is also unclear what started the fire.
