Capital Metro hosting open houses to help shape transit plan

The population in the Austin metro area is expected to grow exponentially in the next 25 years. To make transportation options easier and reduce traffic, Capital Metro is looking for the public's ideas and suggestions.

Projections show that the Central Texas population could grow by as much as 29 percent in the next nine years and as much as much as 80 percent by 2040.

With these expected booms in population the existing traffic issues are only expected to get worse.

Cap Metro has been working on some new ideas since last fall and recently released them and it's also hosting a series of open houses to get public feedback.

Connection 2025 assesses existing and projected conditions of the transit system and service area. It also creates short and long range goals to improve the network.

So far analysis has found commuting in Austin is higher than other big cities like Dallas and San Antonio.

Cap Metro hopes the study will help officials come up with solutions to the ever increasing traffic issues.

There are two open houses today (5/18). The first is at 11:30 a.m. at Republic Square Park and the other is at 5 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Branch Library.

If you're not able to make those there will be another one. You can get more information here.
