Child dies after drowning incident at Buttercup Pool in Cedar Park

A child has died Wednesday evening after a drowning incident at Buttercup Pool in Cedar Park Tuesday afternoon.

The Cedar Park Police Department said in a release that officers responded to reports of a possible drowning involving a child at the Buttercup Pool on Twin Oak Trail on June 4 around 2:56 p.m. When they arrived, city lifeguards were trying to save the girl's life along with Cedar Park fire and police first responders.

She was transported to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries early Wednesday evening.

The City of Cedar Park released a statement about the incident on Facebook, extending their condolences to the family.

"We recognize that Cedar Park is a close-knit community and that our residents want to understand what happened," the statement read. "We appreciate everyone’s understanding as our Police continue to investigate the cause and circumstances of this tragedy."

Cedar Park PD is asking anyone with first-hand information relevant to the incident to call Sergeant Kristy Whitley at 512-260-4816.

The department is also requesting the public from posting third-party information on social media out of respect for the family.
