A toddler is safe after being found wandering along a Southeast Austin street overnight.
Police units found the child near the intersection of Montopolis and Felix Ave. A concerned couple called 911 after spotting the child wandering alone in the roadway.
The little boy is about 2 years old. He was held by welfare officials until his mother arrived around 3 a.m.
APD Sgt. Rick Davis says, in cases like this, an all-out search for the parents is immediately done.
Police used 9-1-1 to call homes within a mile a radius and alert them about the found child. The little boy was wearing green Ninja Turtle pajamas and wasn't able to tell authorities any information himself.
Sgt. Rick Davis says, "We have used APD social media to try to reach out to people, we also have a system called Reverse 911, where we contact Missing Persons and they give us permission to send out text email and phone calls to land lines alerting people from a half mile to a mile of all the residents in the area stating they have a child, and if anybody is missing their child they need to call us so we can hopefully get them back home."
Case workers with CPS and investigators with the APD Child Abuse Unit are looking into how the child got out of his home.
At this time no charges have been filed, and names have not been released.
