Community Tax Centers offering free tax help to families

The Community Tax Centers estimates it will help nearly 20,000 families in the Austin metro area this tax season. It's opening its doors today and has six locations throughout Austin and in Round Rock.

It's the 11th year the centers have operated in the area. It provides free tax help to families making less than $50,000 a year.

The tax centers provide the free service through Foundation Communities and the help of nearly 500 volunteers.

People who work there say it's a much needed service that helps low income families save hundreds of dollars which helps them catch up on bills or other needs.

"People a lot of the time are counting on the refunds they receive every year to pay for bills, put food on the table,  pay for their child's education so many of the families we serve actually look forward to this time of every year," says Alyah Kahn with Foundation Communities.
