Deadly auto-pedestrian crash on I-35 service road

A person is dead after a crash in the 7700 block of I-35 between William Cannon and Slaughter. The Austin Police Department says it was an auto pedestrian crash.

The crash happened around 5 a.m. APD says a white woman in her 20s was walking on or near the road when she was hit by a car. The driver of the car stopped and cooperated with police.

Police say alcohol and speed was not a factor with the driver. They say it's not clear if alcohol was a factor with the victim.

Police say the victim is believed to live in the area. It's not clear where she was going.

The area where the crash happened is not very well lit. Police say if you do need to walk on the access road you should wear bright colors to drivers can see you.

Police say this was the 83rd fatality crash of 2015 and 92nd fatality.

I-35 is open but the access road is expected to be closed until 10 a.m.
