UPDATE: Deadly early morning crash in East Austin

Update, 9:45 P.M.

Manor head football coach Sadd Jackson and his Mustangs will play Friday's game against Hutto and have dedicated that game and the rest of this season to Thomas and his family.


Manor High School senior Lance Thomas was killed early Tuesday morning in a car crash on E. 290. Thomas, 17, played on both the Manor football and basketball teams.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that a black 2014 Kia Sedan was traveling west on the 9700 block of E. Hwy 290 service road and for an unknown reason drifted off the road, striking a grass embankment and flipped.

The victim, Thomas, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said that two other passengers were transported to Brackenridge Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The case is still being investigated.

Police said this is Austin's 77th fatal traffic crash and the 85th fatality of 2015. At this time in 2014, there were 41 fatality crashes and 48 fatalities.


A teen is killed in an early morning crash in East Austin. It happened just before midnight on 290 near Harris Branch Parkway.

Police say the vehicle was heading west on the 290 Service Road when it left the road and hit a solar panel. 

The driver, described as a black male teen, died at the scene.

Another male teen and two females in their 20's were taken to Brackenridge. It's not clear what their current conditions are.

290 was shut down until 4 a.m. as police investigated the crash.
