AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - If you struggled to place a membership deposit for Austin FC season tickets Wednesday, you weren't alone. When tickets went on sale, the amount of people wanting in crashed the website temporarily.
While their inaugural season doesn't begin until 2021, that didn't stop fans from trying to put a deposit down for season tickets now.
Austin FC even went on to say thousands upon thousands of people applied and the hype for getting the chance to nab season tickets was enough to crash Austin FC's website.
Austin FC President Andy Loughnane posted a video to social media in response.
"I want to thank everybody for their support, I want to apologize once again for the website difficulties,” said Loughnane in the video.
Wednesday marked the first day fans could put down a refundable deposit so they have a place reserved for season tickets.
“It's one of the more important mile stones in the history of our young franchise,” Loughnane said ahead of the sales.
They were able to figure out a work around and were back up and running within a few minutes. Austin FC later put out a statement saying they set a Major League Soccer record with the largest number of season ticket membership deposits secured in a single day but did not release an exact number.
“Whether you've lived in Austin for a short time or all your life we are Austin’s major league team and this is an incredible opportunity to rally around something that is prideful for all of Austin,” said Loughnane.
Work on the more than 20,000 seat stadium at McKalla Place is set to break ground in mid-September.
Their website is back up and running for anyone who hasn't put down a deposit yet for season tickets.
