A man is dead after being shot by a Caldwell County Sheriff's deputy. It happened shortly after 4 a.m.

Authorities say the received a call about a burglary in process and when they arrived on scene the person who called 9-1-1 said they saw the suspect at the intersection of State Park road and South Main Street.

The suspect reportedly was armed with a shovel when he was located and authorities demanded the suspect put the shovel down.

After not complying, shots were fired and the suspect was killed. It's not clear exactly how many times the deputy fired his weapon.
