East Austin stabbing leads to SWAT standoff

*UPDATE*

The SWAT standoff ended peacefully with suspect in custody.

At 9:29 a.m. Austin Police were dispatched to 1808 East 3rd Street, Calmers Court Apartments, to the report of a "Shooting Stabbing Hot Shot Call."  The caller reported being stabbed by an individual at that location.

When officers arrived on scene the caller was treated for serious injuries, stab wounds, and transported to an area hospital.

Before APD's arrival the suspect went back inside apartment at Calmers Court.  After a couple hours of negotiation with police the suspect did surrender.  He was taken into custody at approximately 11:34 am without the use of force.

Detectives are investigating and speaking to witnesses.

At this time charges have yet to be filed.

According to APD PIO Polansky the suspect "appears to be elderly."

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the altercation and the relationship between the two involoved.


Austin Police department responded to a stabbing at the 1800 block of East 3rd street.  One victim was transported to a local hospital.  SWAT is on the scene where a male suspect is "possibly barricaded" in an apartment, according to APD.
