AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - UPDATE: Gibbs has been arrested and taken into custody.
The Austin Police Department has identified the suspect in the shooting death of Alexander J. Morgan Jr. as 31-year-old Marcus A. Gibbs.
Gibbs is considered to be armed and dangerous. Some of his aliases are Marcus Anthony Bedele, Demetrius Bedele, Pooch, and Philly, according to the Austin Police Department.
According to police, officers received a call of shots fired at the Rare Apartments on Thursday, July 18. Austin police and Austin-Travis County EMS arrived at the scene and located Alexander Morgan Jr. with multiple gunshot wounds.
Morgan was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he remained in critical condition. On Sunday, July 21, police were notified that Morgan had been declared brain-dead. He was taken off life support.
After speaking with witnesses, detectives learned two men had earlier come to the suspect Gibbs' apartment to collect drug debt from Morgan. Gibbs became upset with Morgan for bringing his drug problems to the apartment.
The men argued and it escalated to the point where Gibbs took his pistol and shot Morgan multiple times. Based on this information, detectives obtained a murder warrant for Marcus Gibbs.
Morgan's cousin, Nessa Morgan says she was raised alongside "AJ." She gave this statement:
"What happened to my cousin was very sad and unfortunate but if you knew Aj you'd know he he wouldn't want us to be sad, he'd want us to be positive about the situation and think of it as if him potentially saving other people's lives.. We wouldn't even know the REAL identity of this dangerous fugitive if it wasn't for the death of Aj. As a community we all have to stick together and help one another get through the pain we've endured. As a community we also need to keep our loved ones safe! Gun violence is starting to become a huge problem in our city and it seem like we're losing the people we love more and more each day. Please if you see Marcus Anthony Gibbs call 9-1-1 immediately he's dangerous and has nothing to lose, Thank you all for supporting us his family through social media"
In addition to this murder, Marcus Gibbs is wanted for another murder in Eerie, PA. where he is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Selena Wall. Prior to Wall's killing, court documents show Gibbs had a few run-ins with the law, most related to drugs and assault. Police are urging anyone that knows the location of the Marcus Gibbs to call 911. He is considered armed and extremely dangerous.
Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1000 reward and the U. S. Marshals are offering up to a $2500 reward for information leading to the arrest of Marcus Gibbs.
