Firefighters investigating deadly North Austin house fire

A man is dead after a house fire in North Austin. It happened in the 9500 block of Middle Fiskville Road which is just northeast of Rundberg and I-35.

It took crews about two hours to put the fire out. Fire officials said it was difficult to tackle the fire because the situation was dangerous for crews.

Officials said once firefighters arrived the home was heavily involved with flames and they had to use defensive operations to knock it down.

Due to the extreme heat conditions, smoke and heavy fire firefighters weren't able to go inside the home. They had to start putting the fire out from the outside.

Once crews managed to get a handle on the fire they entered the home and that's when they found a man's body.

Arson investigators were called to the scene. Police were also called in and are working with the Austin Fire Department to figure out what started the fire and the man's cause of death.
