Five Guys in Round Rock robbed at gunpoint by a clown masked robber

Some scary moments for some Five Guys Restaurant employees, as surveillance video shows them being held at gunpoint by a clown masked robber. Sgt. Darin Bayles is with the Round Rock Police Department, “Robberies like this where people have weapons, edged weapons or pistols can be very volatile in dynamic situations,” he said.

Detectives said the incident started just after midnight Wednesday when an employee was taking out the trash and the robber walked up to him disguised in the scary clown mask holding a gun. They went back into the store where surveillance video catches the suspect who is described as a male around 5”6”, 160 pounds, with a thin build.  The suspect led the workers back into a room only employees have access to. The masked robber took some money and left the restaurant. Detectives said it was after hours so, no customers were in the restaurant but they said the robber may have left some clues behind. ‘We’ve recovered some evidence in another area of the parking lot that might provide us with some affirmative links to a suspect,” Sgt. Bayles said.

Sgt. Bayles said the employees did the right thing by complying at all times with the armed suspect’s requests. “No one can ever know with any certainty how the suspect is going to react to their presence. Sometimes they are just as nervous. You really don't know how things are going to turn out. But yes compliance is always important and in this case the employees did comply and got help as quickly as they could.”

Round rock police is asking anyone who may have information regarding this case to contact Detective Shawn Scott at 512-569-0465 or the Capital Area Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS.
