Former teacher arrested for having improper relationship with Vista Ridge HS student
A former Leander ISD teacher is in jail charged and with having an improper relationship with one of his students.
The teacher, identified as Ian Edgeley, worked at Vista Ridge High School and Cedar Park High School this past year. He has since resigned.
On June 13th the wife of Leander ISD computer science teacher, Ian James Edgeley, called Vista Ridge High School. She told school staff that her husband admitted to having an affair with one of his students.
Officers searched Edgeley's computer and Twitter account and found evidence of an improper relationship that began in April. "What we found on his computer was nude pictures of the victim as well as communication from the victim of a sexual nature," said Sgt. Christopher Dailey.
During an interview with police, the 18-year-old student said she and Edgeley had a sexual relationship that began after graduation. "Just like any other parent, you're concerned and you expect when your kids go to school that not only are they going to get a quality education, but they're going to be safe as well," said Representative Tony Dale, (R) Cedar Park.
The arrest hits home with Representative Tony Dale as his daughter is a Vista Ridge student.
He is currently working to draft legislation that will keep teachers who are involved in inappropriate relationships out of our schools. "When I got home last night I talked to my daughter and I said do you know this person and other questions I think any parent would ask and my daughter doesn't know this teacher which I'm thankful for," said Dale.
Edgeley is a UK citizen and was arrested yesterday at a Houston airport as he re-entered the country.
Prior to Edgeley's tenure in Leander ISD, he substituted and taught computer science at Round Rock High School during the 20-13/14 and 14/15 school years. "We do have evidence where we believe there might be other victims who were students of Mr. Edgeley's in either RRISD or Leander ISD," said Dailey.
In a letter sent to parents Friday, Round Rock ISD says it has no record of reported incidents involving Edgeley, but encouraged parents and students to contact law enforcement if they knew otherwise.
"This is part of the issue that were trying to dress is making sure that if there someone that's got problems at the school they don't make it to another school," said Dale.

A former Leander ISD teacher is in the Williamson County Jail for the charge of having an improper relationship with a student.
Police learned of this inappropriate relationship when the teacher's wife called Vista Ridge High school in June.
She said her husband Ian James Edgeley, a computer science teacher, admitted to her that he was having an affair with a student.
Police searched Edgeley's computer and located nude photos of the student. They found that he was using twitter to communicate with her.
When police interviewed the student she said had a sexual relationship with Edgeley, but it began after graduation.
She was enrolled in his class from April to June of this year.
FOX 7 spoke with Representative Tony Dale this morning who is currently working to draft legislation to keep teachers who are involved in such relationships out of our schools. This hits close to home with him as his daughter is a Vista Ridge student.

Edgeley a, UK citizen, was in the US on a work visa. He resigned in June. Police arrested him when he came back into the country from the UK.
He also taught at Cedar Park High School for the 2015-16 school year.
Prior to that he taught and substituted at Round Rock High School for two years.
Police say they have reason to believe he may have had or attempted to have relationships with other students.

Leander ISD releases the following statement.
LEANDER, Texas, July 22, 2016 – Ian Edgeley submitted his resignation to Leander ISD in June of 2016. He was a computer science teacher at Vista Ridge High School and Cedar Park High School for one year during the 2015-16 school year.
Leander ISD is fully cooperating with the Cedar Park Police Department as they conduct their investigation. As to not interfere with their investigation, LISD is not at liberty to discuss the issue or answer questions.
Student safety is our top priority, and we will continue to hold staff accountable to the fullest extent possible.

Cedar Park Police Department arrested Ian J. Edgeley for improper relationship between a student and an educator after an incident involving a student in a neighboring school district this past school year. Investigators are releasing a press statement today asking for any other victims to please come forward with information.
There are no reported incidents from RRISD. We are partnering CPPD to support their investigation.
