Four children killed in Bastrop accident, driver in a coma

Four children were killed in a car crash in Bastrop on Friday.

The ages of the children have not been released at this time.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, two cars were involved in a crash on State Highway 21, at Quarter Horse Loop, a little after 9 p.m. on Friday, March 29. When officers arrived on scene, they found that four children who were passengers in one vehicle were killed in the accident.

The driver of that vehicle was injured and transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas. That driver is now in a coma. It is not clear what relation the driver had to the children.

After reviewing surveillance video from a nearby gun store, Texas DPS was able to determine that a car (unit one) was traveling west on State Highway 21 and stopped at Quarter Horse Loop, waiting for oncoming traffic to clear before turning left.

A second car (unit two) struck unit one, and according to surveillance video unit two was traveling 58 mpgh five seconds prior to impact. This could indicate a possible distraction like a cell phone in unit two, according to Texas DPS.

Neither the driver or the passenger was injured in unit two.
