Austin Humane Society takes on animals from New Orleans
The Austin Humane Society helped clear shelter space in Louisiana ahead of Hurricane Barry, but now their own shelter is full.
On Wednesday, four staff members loaded 41 kittens and 33 dogs into a trailer and drove them from the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter in New Orleans to Austin.

AFD investigates deadly house fire in North Austin
Within minutes four fire engines, a rescue truck and 30 firefighters responded to a home on the 8300 block of Loralinda Drive Friday night. Austin Fire Department Division Chief Palmer Buck said the house was already fully engulfed in flames and there were reports that someone might be inside.
"Crews made several different attempts to search the home to get inside the house while the house was falling down around them," Buck said.
After ten minutes, crews were pulled back as the home's structure began to collapse. The Austin Police Department assisted by evacuating nearby homes and after 25 minutes the fire was under control.Read the full article
AFD: Man confesses to setting fire to grandfather's car
A homeless man was arrested after Austin fire investigators say he confessed to setting his grandfather's car on fire because he felt a "vendetta" against him.
Tyler Allen Grist, 28, was charged with second-degree felony arson.
According to an arrest affidavit, Austin firefighters were dispatched to Cannonleague Drive and Cherry Orchard Drive in southwest Austin on the morning of July 8 for a reported vehicle on fire in the street. Firefighters on scene found a passenger car with fire coming from the entire passenger compartment.Read the full article
