AUSTIN, Texas - President Trump wants NFL players who refuse to stand for the national anthem to be fired.
But his call for action seems to be having the opposite effect.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell released this statement saying:
"Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities."
The NFL players association also released a statement saying they will never back down supporting their player’s rights to kneel during the national anthem.
FOX 7’s Mike Warren talks to Travis County GOP chairman Matt Mackowiak and Ed Espinoza from Progress Texas about whether NFL players should be fired if they refuse to stand for the national anthem.
