Funeral for Round Rock PD Officer Charles Whites
Round Rock Police Department Officer Charles Whites will be laid to rest today.
About a five mile procession will carry Whites from the Beck Funeral Home in northwest Austin to Shoreline Church. After the services Whites will be brought back to the funeral home.
The procession begins at 7:45 a.m. and is expected to arrive at the church at around 8 a.m. The route is as follows:
- Right on 620 from Beck Funeral Home
- Right on O'Connor Drive
- Left onto TX-45 East
- Exit FM1325
- Right on County Road 172
- Right on FM1325
- Left on Shoreline Drive
- Right into Church
Funeral services start at 10 a.m. Once services are over, Whites' body will be escorted back to the funeral home for a graveside service. On the way the procession will go through Round Rock and officials say people can come out and pay their respects.
64-year-old Whites was born on August 22, 1954 in Sherman. Family and friends say Whites was born with a soul that had the courage to wear the badge. He had been saving, serving and protecting the community as an officer for 19 years.
Whites was a patrol officer, field training officer and SWAT negotiator while sworn with the Round Rock police which was a life long dream of his.
Those that knew him says Whites was someone who loved climbing, scuba diving, hiking and downhill skiing as well as many other things.
Whites died on April 27 two months after being hit by a drunk driver while directing traffic. A line of first responders known as the "Honor Wall" waited outside the Medical Examiner's Office as Whites' body was escorted in.
Whites leaves behind a wife and a stepson as well as his parents and other family members.
Instead of sending flowers, the family is asking and encouraging people to donate to the Round Rock Police Officers Association.
