Georgetown Lighting of the Square

A big night in Georgetown the day after Thanksgiving as the city celebrated the Lighting of the Square.

Despite a chilly and rainy night hundreds showed up for the annual tradition.

Many cheered as they flipped the switch, lighting up the courthouse grounds and the city.  This year city officials said more lights were added to trees on the courthouse lawn, making it bigger and brighter than ever before.

Also this year for the first time there was a short essay contest. A student named Lili won the contest. She got to read her essay at the lighting and got to flip the switch as well.

Along with the lighting, Santa made an appearance and took pictures with little ones, the mayor spoke, and everyone sang christmas carols.
