Graveyard Point evacuated as flood surge moves in

The Dash started long before sunrise. Property owners along Graveyard Point raced the rising water level in Lake Travis to get what they could out of harms way.

Kyle Harmon spent the morning at his parents house.

“Electronics that we’re downstairs, we had a TV downstairs and a generator we tried to get all that stuff upstairs anything that would immediately get damaged,” said Harmon.

Graveyard Pointe and the rest of Lake Travis was very much high and dry during the recent hot summer months. Lake Residents know that Quick rebounds are typical, but this one Harmon says caught them a little by surprise.

“It’s pretty insane, we never thought it would get like this, we always thought we’d have to worry about running out of water , not having water in our backyard,” said Harmon.

Shortly before noon authorities starting moving people out of the area. A long line of vehicles rolled up Up and out to higher Ground. In several cases it was neighbor helping neighbor. “And When you watch this community work together it’s pretty amazing,” said Graveyard Point Resident Paul Sherry.

Marina work Crews were also scrambling Wednesday morning.

The expected influx of water had them Adjusting and tying down docks.

There were no reports of rescues Wednesday morning in Graveyard Point. But up stream, along the North Shore in Lago Vista it was a much different story. 4 people were rescued by crews with Travis County ESD 1. A spokesperson told FOX 7 Austin the rescues took place near Fawn and Emerald Parks.

Residents of the island condominiums we’re also evacuated after electricity was cut off as a safety precaution. “We were out here Saturday and we had to go down probably 20 foot to get to the water from where I’m standing right now. Well it’s more than that. The lake has come up 31 feet in 48 hours or something like that, that’s the fastest I’ve ever seen it come up, it’s been amazing and devastating to off a lot of people,” said Lakeway Resident Mark Gorman.
