Great weather draws thousands to holiday sing-along and downtown stroll

The Holiday Sing-Along and Downtown Stroll is in its 30th year of celebration.

KUT General Manager Sylvia Carson said the weather Saturday night drew a large crowd to this year’s event. Thousands of people were up and down Congress Avenue.

"It really is how Austin kicks off the holiday season I don't think we've had as many people as we've had tonight because it's Austin it's great.” Carson said.

The event began with carolers singing in the capitol but after a while the crowd got too big and relocated outside to the front steps.

KUT/KUTX created the event to bring people together through music. 15 years later, The Downtown Austin Alliance joined in the festivities with a Stroll and a tree-lighting.

There were several local vendors, musicians and performing acts.

John Aielli and Elizabeth McQueen led the crowd in Christmas carols.

The McNeeley family came and said they enjoyed themselves.

“Great show, nice weather beautiful to see all these kids out here tonight to,” Joe McNeeley said.

"It's wonderful to see all the families together I just moved here so to see all of this community together and it's wonderful it's what makes Austin different."
