Halloween 'No Refusal' initiative

Austin police will be out in full force for Halloween for its "No Refusal" initiative.

Thousands are expected to be out downtown and anyone suspected of driving drunk who refuses a breathalyzer will be forced by court order to provide a blood or breath sample.

The initiative starts at 9 p.m. on Halloween and wraps up at 5 a.m. on November 1st.

Police are asking everyone to have a plan in place to get home safely before they head out for Halloween.

Several streets will be closed to make room for all the revelers. That includes 6th Street from Brazos to I-35 as well as the cross streets from 5th to 7th Streets starting at Brazos and going over to Sabine.

Police also ask people to leave the weapons at home. If you have a fake gun, knife or other potentially dangerous weapon, police ask you to make sure it can't be mistaken for the real thing.

If you need information about getting home safe you can go here.
