Historic Llano River flooding forces evacuations in Marble Falls

The Llano River reached historic levels and prompted officials in Marble Falls to order evacuations and open shelters for displaced residents Tuesday.

During a news conference, officials said residents will not be able to return to their homes for 24 to 36 hours because the river is expected to rise again.

A little more than 100 people had to evacuate.

The Llano River reached its second highest level ever Tuesday when it crested at nearly 40 feet. That prompted officials to urge anyone living within a quarter mile of the river to get to higher ground.

The City of Marble Falls then started issuing evacuation orders soon after.
