KYLE, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - Kyle police are investigating a hit-and-run that left two women dead and three others injured on Saturday night.
Police say Macario M. Hernandez, 61, of Buda, fled on foot after the crash and was quickly located by Hays County Sheriff's Office deputies and taken into custody.
According to a release from the city, a Honda sedan with five passengers was struck by a Dodge pickup truck at the intersection of Windy Hill Road and the northbound I-35 access road around 9:20 p.m. Saturday.
Two passengers of the sedan, a 16-year-old female and an 18-year-old female, were pronounced dead at the scene and police say both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Three other passengers in the sedan were transported to an area hospital. All of the passengers are from out of town.
Hernandez was booked into the Hays County Jail on two charges of accident causing death and three counts of accident causing serious bodily injury. Police say additional charges could be filed pending toxicology results.
The eastbound lanes of Windy Hill Road at the I-35 access road intersection were shut down for several hours while the Kyle PD Crash Team investigated the scene with help from the Kyle Fire Department.
On Monday, April 29, the team will close down that same intersection for accident reconstruction. Barnett said the team will wait until after the morning rush hour.
